Owing to the enforced absence of Dr.C.H.Wheeler,whop attended Barry, the case was continued until this morning at 11 o'clock after hearing the testimony of a few witnesses. Morey, who was brought to the morgue,in irons, by Jailer James, was placed on the stand, but stated that, acting upon instructions from his counse,he would refuse to testify.Deputy District Attorney Laffertey, who was present, informed him that he had a right to make sucha refusal, and he was excused. The witnesses examined were Annie Wright,Mrs. Barry and Officers Keith and Dougherty. Ttestimony was in effect the same as has been published. Morey entered the house at 1 o'clock in th emorning, and going to Barry's room fired a shot at the latter while he was lying in bed asleep. Barry jumped up and ran to a hall door, when Morey fired again, inflicting a wound that caused his victim's death.Officer Keith, being infoermed of the affair, went ot the house ,and entering Barry's room found the bed on fire, and he extinguished the flames. Annie Wright, sister of Mrs. Barry, and with whom Morey was living, was standing in the room calmly smoking a cigarette. She went up to Morey after he had been placed under arrest, and taking his hand said:"I will stand by yo,George" The inquest was not without dramatic features, and Mrs. Barry was the principal actor.Notwithstanding she had made,so it is alleged, several attempts to kill her husband by shooting at him with a pistol, and had caused his confinement in jail many times,in fact, made every manifestation of her hatred for hi,she made a display of grief yesterday that under most circumstances would be patheti.Once she demanded to see her husband's face, and upon being led into the morgue, dropped to the floor in a faint.Restoratives were applied and she soon recovered. On the witness stand she fainted againh, and the coroner and prosecuting attorney frefrained from asking her any questions.A carriage was then called and in the company of her sister, she was driven to her home. Teh jury will render a verdict in the case this morning File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/or/multnomah/newspapers/adramati110gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/orfiles/ File size: 2.9 Kb
