The Oregonian April 23, 1893
JohDiamond was in the city Tuesday to attend a dinner given in honor of the 
28th anniversary of th ebirth of Mrs. M.Brown, who has been an invaild for a 
number of years. Mr. Diamond came from his claim, where Coburg is now located, 
to help raise the first mill on the Calapooia river in Linn County, in th 
eyear of 1848. Those were the times when he went to Albany, a distance of 32 
miles, to mail a letter.If you people who think your lot is a hard one now 
would just compare it with some of the old pioneer life, we think you would 
blush at the result.
