CLARA BROWN DYING IN OREGON Seriously Injured in Elk Excursion Wreck DAUGHTER OF CRAWFORD Father Left for Portland Yesterday Afternoon William D. Crawford, who lives on South Emporia avenue, received a telegram yesterday afternoon that his daughter, Mrs. C. B. Brown, a Sedgwick county girl, was dying at Portland, Oregon, as a result of injuries received in the wreck of the Elk excursion train between that city and Olympia Saturday. The communication came from Dr. C. B. Brown and stated that Mrs. Brown was sinking rapidly, and that her physicians had said that there were no hopes for her. Mr. Crawford left for Portland on the first train, going on the 5:20 Santa Fe passenger yesterday afternoon, and will reach his daughter after being three nights on the road. The first that Mr. Crawford knew of the accident to his daughter was learned from the account of the wreck in Sunday's Eagle, in which Mrs. Brown was numbered among the seriously injured, it being stated that her arm had been severed from her body and that she was otherwise seriously injured. Soon after this Mr. Crawford received word from his son-in-law that she was hurt, but did not realize how seriously until he received the second message yesterday afternoon. Mr. Crawford is one of the old timers in this county and lived in the Carlton district south of the city when his daughter, Clara D. Crawford, was born, about twenty-six years ago. She was educated and reared to young womanhood in this county and has a number of friends who will hear of her condition with sorrow. Several years ago she went to Oregon where she has relatives and soon after was married to Dr. C. B. Brown of Portland, where she has lived ever since. Mr. Crawford sold his farm in the Carlton district about two months ago, bought the Hiram Norcross residence, 832 North Lawrence, and moved to this city to live. He is staying on South Emporia avenue until his new home is vacated. The Oregon Daily Journal (Portland, OR) Sat Oct 24, 1903 pg 7 MRS. BROWN RECOVERING Mrs. C. B.
