Morning Oregonian August 2, 1904
Captain J.A.Stutt,of Engine Company No. 1,of the Portland Fire Department,has 
handed his resignation to Chief Campbell.Mr.Stutt has been connected with the 
department for a number of years,and was known as one of the most competent 
men in the department,and especially as a man of presence of mind in trying 
situations.He leaves the force to engage in private business in this city. 
George W.Stokes,driver of Truck No.2, has been promoted to fill the vacancy.
