Fay said that his wife and Mrs.Hayes were sisters, and that it was his desire to take charge of Mrs. Hayes and her two children, and provide for them. He had been informed of Hayes infamous conduct toward this wife, and he came here in order to save her, id possible, from shameful humiliation. Hayes was arrested by Officer Kerrigan on the East side a few days ago for being a dissolute person. He was charged with having forced his wife to submit to outrageous treatment in order to support him, and it was for this offense that the officers arrested him. Judge McNary sent him to jail for 20 days. Mr.Fay says that Mrs.Hayes' relatives are people in high standing and are nearly heart broken over the disgraceful position in which she has been placed. They are very bitter against Hayes, and think that the punishment he has received is not severe enough.
