The funeral was perhaps the largest and most impressive ever held in Portland.Hundreds of sorrowing friends and relatives attended the servicesat the residence and followed the body to the grave. Many of the business houses were closed during the funeral. The cortege was fully a mile long. The home services were conducted by Rev.John Gantenbein,of the German Luthernan Church. The casket was nearly hidden in a bank of floral offerings from individuals and business houses. The most attractive offerings was a big piece in roses sent by Mr.Weinhard's employees.Another beautiful floral tribute was that sent by the Retail Liqour Dealer's Association. Following the reading of the burial service the Arion choir sang a hymn as the casket was carried out of the residence and into the hearse. There was a touching incident as the pallbearers left the house.Fifty newsboys, under the leadership of their chairman,Otto Praeg, stood respectfully on either side of the walk with bared heads.By the death of Henry Weinhard they had lost a staunch friend and supporter, for he had been the honorary president of the Newsboys' Benefit Association and had befriended them in many ways. Each youngster wore a knot of crepe on has amr and after the services a letter of condolence was sent to the members of the bereaved household. Every carriage in town was brought into service to carry the large concourse of friends to the cemetery to pay their last respects to the dead. It was found necesary to bring all available carriages from Oregon City and Vancouver, the local supple being insufficient. Following the ritual of the Masons at the grave John Reisacher delivered a brief eulogy of the departed, saying he was a man of generous impulses,a man of his word, and a man with a big soul and big heart. The closing prayer was offered by Rev.Mr.Gantenbein and the choir sang "Nearer My God To Thee" as the casket was lowered into the grave. The pallbearers were A.E.Buettner,Henry Everding,George Langford,Michael Sins,Peter Wagner,Balthaser Adams, and C.Blakely.
