Morning Oregonian November 13, 1904
The golden wedding anniversary reception of General and Mrs. Eliphalet 
Whittlesey was a delightfl event of Monday evening.Mrs.C.H.Patten,of 
St.Louis,their olny daughter,and Mrs.Winthrop Tappen,of Nwe Jersey,a sister of 
the hostess,assisted the bride and groom of a half century ago in receiving 
their many hundreds of friends.Their daughter in law,Mrs. George 
P.Whittlesey,of this city, and Mrs.James T.Whittleset,of New York presided in 
the dining room,assisted by Mrs.Arthur S.Phelps.Miss Cook,Miss Tappen and the 
five granddaughters of the host and hostess.
An especially interesting gift was a gold loving cup,mounted on old ivory 
standards and bearing an inscription that told of General Whittlesesy's 
connection with the Mohonk Indian Conference.
