All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor Knighten April 1, 2008, 10:44 am Morning Oregonian October 29, 1904 After over two hours deliberation yesterday afternoon,a jury in the court of Justice Reid, in the case of Henry Westerman,charged with selling adulterated milk,brought in a verdict of guilty,and,in spite of the fact that Westerman has been thrice convicted before of the same offense,the jury recommended that the lowest fine be assessed. The verdict was peculiar,statin gthat three samples of the milk should have been taken instead of one,and that one should have been given the defendant,that he might prtoect himself. Justice Reid remarked to the jury that the verdict surprised him and state that he hardly understood the reason for such a verdict,especially as the man had been found guilty of the same offense before.
