Saturday, February 4, 1893, aged 78 years 1 month and 3 days. He was born in Zanesville, O. January 1, 1815. His father, Daniel Barker moved to Monroe county, Ill., one year later when the county was a wilderness and settled on a farm. When Hiram Barker grew to manhood he married Susan M. Hull, February 24, 1839 and settled on a farm near his father’s place until the year 1832, March 30, when they started across the plains to Oregon, where they arrived September 18. In May, 1853, he took up a donation claim nine miles east of Portland, upon which he has lived continuously ever since. He has improved his claim by hard and industrious labor, until it has become a fine farm. Hiram Barker was a good specimen of the early pioneers that came to Oregon in the ‘50s. He was the father of 14 children, six of whom are now living; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; was a member in good standing of Mount Tabor Masonic lodge. He will be buried from his home Tuesday at noon in Central Grove cemetery, on the Sandy road, seven miles east of East Portland.
