W. Minneban's barn, at Woodlawn. He was a blacksmith, about 51 years of age, and had resided at Gresham for some time, but was brought in last Monday by officers to have his mental condition inquired into. County Judge Moreland pronounced him sane, and he was released. He then went ot Mr. Minnehan,an old friends of his, and secured permision to remain with him for awhile. Tuesday night Malcolm was in apperently good spirits before retiring, and gave no intimation of contemplating the commission of a terrible act. Mr. Minnehan went to the stable to take care of his horses, and upon entering the sleeping room he saw Malcom lying face down in a pool of blood. Near his right hand was a bloody razor. Minnehan summoned assistance and an investigation showed him that Malcolm was dead. He had deliberatley committed suicide, and the way he went about it indicated the disordered condition of his brain. He had poured water upon the floor, and then, kneeling upon the dampened spot, slashed his throat with a razor he had taken from a bureau drawer. The gash was a terrible one, extending from ear to ear and almost decapitating him. When the body was found it was still warm, and the blood was flowing from the wound, showing that the deed was committed but a short time after Mr. Minnehan went to the barn. Coroner Hughes was notified, and his deputy, F.Hill, removed the body to the morgue, where an inquest was held at 7 o'clock last night. It was shown that Malcolm has not been of sound mind since his wife deserted him to the East several years ago. He was a soldier in the Civil War and a member of the G.A.R. He was subject to fits of insanity, and the coroner's jury found it was during one of these that he committed the act. The deceased had no relatives in this state, but his brothers reside somewhere in the East. The coroner will endeavor to communicate with these before making any disposition of the remains.
