James M. Menefee, the aged painter, who was so severely injured about the head, died at the residence of his son in Albina last evening at 11:30 o'clock. Death resulted from paralysis due to a bad fracture at the base of the skull. The case was almost hopeless from the first, but the old gentleman displayed a great deal of vitality. Soon after taken out of the wreck, Mr. Menefee recovered consiuosness, and was able to speak to those about him up to a few minutes within his death. The deceased was 66 yers of age. Three years ago he came to Albina from Santa Rosa, Calif., and at the time of his death was living at the house of his son. He was the father of J. P. and Robert E.Menefee, well known residents of Albina. Coroner Holman has taken charge of the body, and will probably hold the inquest today.
