Andrew Oleson Slips Through Trestle on Railway Track

Bert Munson, of Sellwood, received a considerable shock on Wednesday night, when his old friend, Andrew Oleson, who was walking behind him on the track of the O.W.P.& R. Co. just south of the Madison street bridge, suddenly disappeared while in the midst of conversation and was swallowed up by the earth beneath. It was after the last car had gone and the two men were walking home to Sellwood when the accident occurred. Munson was talking and getting no response, looked for his old friend, but did not see him. He searched and could not find him. Then he went on home alone. Arriving here at 4 o'clock yesterday morning, he got together a search party, but it took until 4 o'clock in the afternoon to locate the lost man. He was found lying 15 feet beneath the trestle with concussion of the brain. He died shortly afterward.

The two men thought they were taking the Southern Pacific track, but instead happened on the O.W.P. & P. track, with which they were not acquainted. They had not progressed farther than three or four blocka when Oleson fell through the trestle, but it took a long time to locate him yesterday. He was 63 years old and lived on Multnomah street in Sellwood.

OLESON - In this city, August 4, 1904, Andrew Oleson, aged 63 years, 4 months, and 20 days. Funeral today (Saturday) at 2 P.M. from Holman's chapel, corner of Third and Salmon streets. Relative and friends respectfully invited to attend. Internment Milwaukie cemetery.
