All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com February 9, 2008, 6:41 pm Morning Oregonian October 3,1904 Dies On The Train Former Railroad Conductor Suddenly Expires On Way Home George A.Olmsted,formerly a conductor on the O.R.&N., died on teh way from the Dalles to Portland yesterday morning of valvular disease of the heart. he had been on a ranch near Shaniko during the summer and was returning to his home.400 Prescott street,Highland, by the early morning freight from The Dalles,whe he suddenly fell dead near troutdale. Mr.Olmsted reached The Dalles Saturday with a severe pain in the stomach, which was not relieved during the journey toward Portland,but had not grown worse. The trainmen knew him to be a sufferer of gallstones,and did not think his condition serious. Early in the morning while running through Troutdale,one of the brakemen was about to cook something for him to eat when he noticed him breathing heavily. In a short time he was dead. When the train reached Portland,Coroner Finley was called and an examination showed that he had died from heart trouble. The funeral will take place from his late residence tomorrow.
