All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com April 6, 2008, 2:49 am Morning Oregonian October 30,1904 Life of Benjamin Roop Pioneer of 1852 Dies in Portland at Age of Eighty One Benjamin Roop,who died at the home of his daughter,Mrs.Frank Drake,was born in Dolphin County,Pennsylvania,June 3,1823.He was married to Sophia G.Morris in 1849,and they crossed the plains in 1852,settling at Needy,Clackamas County,Oregon.They each took up a section of a land and have owned it until three years ago.Mr.Roop was an ambitious man and in 1875 moved to San Fransisco to educate his family,consisting of three girls and three boys.He was manager of the zoological department of Woodward's Gardens for over 20 years,and retired from active life about nine years ago.He was laid to rest in the cemetery he donated to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Needy,Clackamas County.he left two daughtes and three sons to mourn his loss;Mrs.Frank Drake,of Portland;Mrs.A.W.Morgan, of San Fransisco;and F.A.,S.B., and W.M.
