All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmai.com December 21, 2007, 10:59 am Oregonian April 22,1893 Coroner Hughes last night held an inquest over the remians of F.R.Scott,the an who died in the city jail Thursday evening.City pysician Wheeler hasd msde an autopsy and found that the man's heart was almost completely ossified.This ailment aggravated by the excessive use of liqour and morphine,undoubtely caused death,and the jury so found. Scott was identified by Dr.J.B.Green,who had known him for severasl years.The deceased was a laborer and at one time possessed considerable means.But he was a hard drinker,and unreliable on this account.He used morphine to relieve pain in his heart.Letely he had been in poor circumstances,but always worked hard and was able to supprt himself.Dr.Green testified at the inquest that he had heard Scott remark quite often that he was tired of living,but the witness did not beleive that he ever had any intention of comitting suicide.All the evidence went to show that death resulted from natural causes,and a verdict was rendered accordingly. Scott was 51 years of age and an American.He had no relatives in this state,and it is not known whether he had any elsewhere.
