The father had $200 when he arrived in Portland,and with thelad had been staying at the International Hotel.Sladden was unable to secure employment and becoming despondent he drank heavily.The son says his father left the hotel early yesterday afternoon,and he knew nothing of hsi being kille dunitl he read an account in the Oregonian.he was unable to wether his father was intoxicated at the time he fell off the train,so the question of wether it was accidental death or a case of suicide is a mystery. Theinquest,which was begun Saturday,will be completed this evening,when more witnesses who have been subpeonaed may throw some additional light on the matter.
