E.Ross Smith Buried
His Body Arrived Here From Chicago Yesterday
The remains of Edgar Ross Smith,the young man who kille dhis sweetheart,Miss 
Effie Clarkat Evanston,a suburb of Chicago,on the 1st inst.,and then committed 
suicide,arrive din this city yesterday over the Union Pacific.They were taken 
charge of by Undertaker Holman and conveyed to Sellwood,where the funeral took 
place at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
There was a sad gathering at the home of the boy,who had lived here nearly all 
his life.His parentd were nearly heartbroken,and could not be comforted by the 
numerous friends who attended the funeral and called to offer their 
sympathies.The body was interred in Riverview cemetary,and the services were 
very quiet.
The circumstances surrounding the death of young Smith have already been 
published.It was a story of unrequited love.He had been going with Miss Clarke 
fpr several years ,but his proposals of marriage were always rejected.he was 
educated here,but several years ago moved to Spokane.Miss Clark lived 
there,and he was very attentive to her.Both went from Spokane to attend a 
medical institute at Evanston.it was there the tragedy took place.
Smith was about 26 years old,and was always popular with his acquaintances.His 
father is one of Portlands most substantial business men,and the blow to him 
has been a severe one.
