All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmai.com March 26, 2008, 11:21 am Monring Oregonian October 23,1904 Death of B.F.Snuffin He Was An Oregon Pioneer of 1851 and Indian War veteran Benjamin F.Snuffin,an Oregon pioneer of 1851, and an Indian War veteran of 1856, died yesterday at his home on the Wiberg Lan, east of the Ladd tract,after an illness of several months. Mr.Snuffin was born in Champaign Conuty,Ohio,March 2,1830, and moved to Andrew County,Missouri,from which place he staretd across the plains for Oregon in 1851,with an ox train of 20 wagons. Teh train reached Oreogn in six months,and Mrs.Snuffin first settled in the Rogue River Valley,where he enagaged in mining for a time.Afterward he came to Clackamas County,where he operated a sawmill until he sold out and moved to Mt.Tabor, his presnt home, about 1872. in 1856, when the call came for volunteers for the Indian was,he was among the first to respond, and he spent six months in the service. he is survived by the following children: Frank,James, and Fred Snuffin,Portlnad; William Snuffin,Redlands,Cal.; Mrs.Sadie Collins,Portland. Mrs. Martha Odell,a daughter, died in California. The funeral will take place this afternoon from the Wesleyan Chapel, inCenter Addition, Mount Tabor.
