All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com September 10, 2007, 10:23 pm Oregonian March 19,1893 Miley Sweet Killed The particualrs of the accidental killing of Miley Sweet on the Bull Run Pipeline,near Gresham,are as follows:The young man was crushed to death beneath a rock weighing about 30 tons.The rock had rolled on to the grade,and as it could not be moved it was decided to blast it out of the way.J.M.Thomas,Frank and Fred Worstell and Miley sweet were on top of the rock for that purpose.Thomas felt the rock moving and called to the others to look and out and get off.Thomas and the two Worstells got safely out of danger,but Sweet was not alert enough.The rolling rock threw Sweet forward,and he pitched to the ground head foremost,when the immense rock,the size of a small house,came upon him,completely mashing him.The rock had to be raised and the ground dug away before the remians could be taken out,which presented a ghastly appearance.It is though that Sweet broke his neck when he pitched off the rock.
