All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com July 7, 2008, 8:28 pm Morning Oregonian Circus Press Agent Dies W.H.Tabor,Esteemed Employee Of Ringlings,Victom of Pneumonia W.H.Tabor,of Grand Rapids,Mich.,died at the Portland Hotel yesterday morning after a short illness of pneumonia and complications caused by abcesses of the lungs.Mr.Tabor,who was a young man of 29 years,came to Portland as the press representative of the Ringling Brothers' circuses,but feeling unusually ill from the effects of a severe cold,the managers of the circus installed him in the most comfortable rooms obtainable,supplied him with a nurse and the best of medical attention,and also left R.M.Feltus here to give him any extra attention which might become necessary.After a week the patient improved to such an extent that Mr.Feltus joined the company in the south,only to be called back by a sudden turn for the worse in the sick man.He at once wired for Mr.Tabor's mother,who lives in Denver,and she arrived here last Saturday morning and was with her son at the time of his death.As the death of her son left no other representative of hte family,Mrs.Tabor decided not to return to Grand Rapids with the remains.,but to have them cremated,which was done yesterday afternoon. Mr.Tabor wa sone of the most promising young men in his profession,and has a wide acquaintances both here and in the East.He had been connected with various theatricla enterprises as a press representative during Winter seasons,and beofre becoming identified with Ringling Brothers was the advance man o fhte Gentry Dog and pony Shows.he made friends reaily and had the faculty of retaining them,and was always esteemed by his employers. Mr.Feltus said of him:" He had advanced himself every year since he has been in business,and had always commanded the esteem and friendship of his employers.The case is a particularly sad one,for he was very young,talented and had every prospect of making a great success of life." Mr.Tabor had become a great friend of Mr.John Keating while here,and they had planned to enter into a partnership in writing ballads as sooon as he recovered.Mr.Keating also feels his death keenly,and has words of greatest praise for his manly character and fine disposition.The attention shown the young man during his illness by Ringling Brothers was as solicitous as that of a family of relaitves.Everything that could in any way add to hsi comfort was ordered done for him,and since hsi death telegrams of condolence have been received by Mrs. Tabor from them and other members of their organization.
