Olympia,Wash.,Sept 2,-(Special)- Samel Green Ward,for 50 years a resident of 
Olympia,died this afternoon after a long illness.Mr.Ward arrived in Olympia 
when 10 years old in company with his father,the late Ira Ward,who for a few 
years prior thereto had been a member of th eparty heade dby Colonel Michael 
Simmonds,that made the first settlement on Puget Sound at Tumwater.
Samuel Ward was born in Toulon,Ill.,in 1843 ans was educated at the Oreon 
University at Salem. He was a member of the Legislature in 189 and for nearly 
20 years was in the meploy of the Northern Pacific as express and ticket agent 
in Olympia.A wife and three sons survive him,to  wit: George 
Frederick,Winfield W.,and Samuel G.Jr.
