All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com February 13, 2008, 6:33 pm Morning Oregonian October 6,1904 TROUTDALE PIONEER DIES P.C.Williams, Veteran of Indian War, Leaves Large Family Gresham,Or.,Oct. 5-(Special)- P.C.Williams, a pioneer of 1852, died at his home near Troutdale on Sunday evening last, and was buried yesterday in the Hall Cemetery,Rev.W.F.Small, of Portland, conducting the funeral services at the house and grave. Mr.Williams was born in Ohio in 1841, and crossed the plains in 1852, when but eleven years old. He grew to manhood here and was engaged in various enterprises,principally the sawmill business, fo rmany years. He was at one time in partnership with the late A.J.Hoyt. He was an Indian war vetern, having been in service in the battle at the Cascades. In 1866 he wss married to Miss Ella Hall, a sister of John H.Hall, present United States District Attorney. Seven sons and daughters survive with their mother. They are: Mrs. Emma Holmes,of Salem; Mrs. W.Q.Buffington,of Pueblo,colo.; Miss Inez Williams, of Troutdae;R.M. Williams, of Bridal Veil; Frank Williams, of St.Martin,Cal.; and Burt and John Williams, residing at home. Mr. Williams was a member of the Unitarian Church and a devoted friend, his deeds of charity being numerous and wide reaching. He held the office of Justice of the Peace for one term in Troutdale district, but beyond that he never engage din politics. His death will be keenly felt by many and his place will not be easily filled in the community where he spent the most of his life.
