Morning Oregonian Septemebr 17,1904
Anna C.Butler testifed that her husband,W.A.Rider,threatened to kill her and 
assaulted her with a flatiron.When she tried to escape from the room he 
slammed the door shut and caught her leg between the door and the casing.She 
cried for help and neighbors came to her assistance.he threatened her life at 
other times,andonce kicked the panels out of the door,and knocked the phone 
from the wall. She also stated that he spent the greater part of his earnings 
for drink.They were married in Portland in 1894.Mrs.Rider was awarded the 
custody of their minor child.
