Turn west at Crowley Rd. and go through metal gate up the hill to Etna Cemetery. The gate is locked except for Memorial Day and funerals. For access contact Lyle Thomas, 15553 Ferns Corner Rd., Dallas, Oregon 97338 or call him at (503) 623-3724. This cemetery was read by Anne & Richard Gailey on April 25, 2002, Anne being a descendent of the Riggs pioneer families buried in this cemetery. There has been considerable deterioration in some of the gravestones between our first reading in 1988 and a subsequent reading in 2002. Unfortunately, some of the names in the 1988 reading are no longer legible although the monuments still exist. *************************************************************************************** " " indicates actual writing on tombstone [ ] indicates information from researched records ( ) indicates information observed ******************************************************************************** NAME BORN DIED INSCRIPTIONS ARMS, Verda I. 1896 1969 (In Williamson plot) BAILEY, Floyd 1894 1895 "Son of M. & L.M. According to Alice Riggs (101 years old in 1988) this cemetery was used as a cemetery even before The Riggs family purchased the land. She also indicated that there are one or two graves that were inside a picket fence up behind the Cass Riggs farm (Three Oaks Farm) or directly adjacent to that farm (about a 1/2 mile north of this cemetery on the west side of Hwy 99W) up among the trees. She grew up on that farm and remembers them clearly. The Bollman Funeral Home in Dallas provided us with a list of burials in the Etna Cemetery. The Rigden-Ransom Funeral Home, in Salem, was sold about two years ago and we were unable to access any records from them.
