Lynn Jones finished training his hops just in time to escape the heavy rain. Ernest Hayes, of McMinnville, is working for Lynn Jones in the hop yard. Jeff Dickey visited his daughter, Mrs. Andrew Woods, at Willamina last Sunday. Mrs. Harley Wilson and little son, of the Highlands, are visiting at the home of George Porter. Mrs. A. A. McLean returned home Wednesday after a three weeks' visit with her home folks at McCoy. A social gathering was held at Mr. Guttrys, Sunday evening. The time was spent in singing and visiting. Mrs. Thomas Dickey, of North Yamhill, visited at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L Guttry, a few days last week. Several from this place attended the play given by "Walling's Players" in Sheridan, Saturday evening. The entertainment was greatly enjoyed by all. Superintendent H. C. Seymour, of Dallas, visited the Harmony school last week. His reports of the place were favorable, and his visit resulted in the cleaning up of the school ground, which greatly improves its appearance. ** SALT CREEK Lester VanNortwick has lagrippe. School closed at Enterprise last Friday. The rain is doing a lot of good to the crops. Hop training is about done for the first siege. Homer Foster was in Dallas one day last week. Miss Anna Schulson is again workiing for Mrs. Woods. Herman Gilliam, who has been quite sick, is convalescent. Ralph Savery sold a full-blooded Jersey cow Saturday. Edgar Foster, of Independence, was here on a visit last week. The census enumerator has been in this locality for several days. Mrs. Will Reddekopp, of Polk, visited her parents here last week. Mrs. Newell and little son spent a few days with Mrs. Savery this week. Mr. and Mrs. P. Bartholomew spent two days in Dallas the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs, A. M. Smith, of Tacoma, Washington, have a fine 8 pound daughter. Mrs Smith was formerly Miss Vessie Sears, who taught school here a few years ago. ** BUELL Mr. Maggina is training his hop yard Stanley Bennett has returned from Toledo. Ras. Hills is carrying the mail for a few days. Carl Harold is visiting in Salem for a few days A large crowd attended Sunday school last Sunday. Miss Annie Harold has gone to Salem to attend school. Bert Bray, of Gooseneck, is working at the mill again. Joe Parker is spending a few days out of the mountains. Mrs. Eva Anderson is working at the mill for Mrs. Bennett. Mrs. Merton Todhunter is visiting her mother, Mrs. Roberts. Nora and Alta Jones returned from training hops last Friday. Ralph Roberts was transacting business on the creek Saturday. Clyde Kellogg spent Saturday and Sunday with his brother, Wallace. Several of the men are down from the mountains for a little vacation. Mrs. Bennett has returned from Toledo, where she has been visiting relatives. A number from her attended the Walling show i Sheridan, Saturday evening. Miss Jennie Todhunter is spending the week with her sister, Mrs. Roberts on Salt Creek. Mrs. Oscar McCollum has been working at the mill while her mother was visiting in Toledo. Charley Jones and Herman Lenhard visited the State Capitol last Saturday and Sunday. Herman Lenhard has sold the team which has been carrying the mail, and will purchase another James McIntosh has moved his family from Portland to the logging camp to work for Lynn Braley. Miss Rose Hall, who formerly worked up in the mountains, has returned to her home in Sheridan. Mr. Merriwether, at the mill, was called to Portland on account of sickness, Saturday. He returned Sunday. ** BUENA VISTA Harry Davidson has returned home from Falls City. Clyde Hall, of Murray, Idaho, visited here over Sunday. There is a good opening here for a good meat market. Miss Marie Church visited over Sunday at Brownsville J M Prather and family were Albany visitors Saturday. Mr and Mrs R M Knighten were Jefferson visitors Saturday C P Wells and family were doing business in Albany Saturda J K Neal attended the Epworth League convention Sunday at Brownsville. Charles Kaw has moved his family up from Carlton. He will engage in the hop business across the river from this place. Miss Clara Wells attended the Epworth League convention Sunday at Brownsville. ** PEDEE Born; to Mr and Mrs Frank Scheythe, a son Miss Lillian Roland is visiting Mrs Frank Turner Miss Grace Tice, of Independence, visited relatives here last week. I W Dickinson, of Independence, was in this neighborhood last week. Pete Ritner and John Yost are the proud possessors of fine new buggies. Mrs. Clara Saddler, of Portland, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs Oleman. Mr. Schaffer has moved back to Pedee mill after spending the winter in Dallas. Arthur Dyer, who has been working near Eugene, is visiting his sister, Mrs. Lena Turner Some of the young folks here attended the dance at A C Staats' Hall Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs Loren Burbank, of Simpson's logging camp, visited Mrs, Burbank's aunt at Sheridan last week. ** POPCORN L D Gibson has been hauling lumber for a tower. A B Gibson has been visiting S R Taylor in Clackamas County. Mr Hunt, from Illinois, is visiting his daughter, Mrs. G W McDowell. The strawberry crop in the hills will be large if the weather continues favorable. Mr. and Mrs. Webster and family visited at the home of G W Porter, Sunday. Grace and Ethel Lansing, of Salem, visited their sister, Mrs. Frank Wilson, Sunday. George Munyon passed through Popcorn last Sunday on his way to the home of Joseph DeLay ** Additional Comments: This newspaper was full of tidbits that might be helpful to a researcher with names, places or even what was going on in the community, so I am listing all the entries for each community and will break this up into several groupings so I can get some of it submitted as I work on it. The town names are a bit confusing, since they are similar or the same as other states, but as I have been reading, I believe the towns listed in this paper, are in Oregon unless otherwise stated. There is a Toledo, OR and I have often run into Toledo, IA as well. And this Dallas, of course, is in Oregon.
