She was identified with the movement which in an early day settled this vicinity,and had been continously for 50 years an active promoter of the special religious and educational interests of the community.Mrs.Henkle,whose maiden name was Wood, was born in Champaign County,Ohio,Noember 8,1828.She was married to Jacob Hankle in 1846. With her husband she crossed the plains to oregon in 1853,taking transportation with the Iowa train,which consisted of 21 wagons and 79 emigrants.Arriving in Oregon the same year,the couple settled on a donation land claim on the south fork of Mary's River,near Philomath. A husband and four children survive, as follows; Rachel Kitson of Philomath;Melissa Wyatt of Corvallis,Nancy Connor, of Portland, and Elizabeth McKoy, of Oakdale,Wash.
