David Samuelsen - June 2002 Albquerque Journal; Albuquerque, NM; 16 Apr 2002 Evelyn McConeghey, 85, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, April 13, 2002. She is survived by one daughter, Victoria Clark of Carmichael, CA; one son, Louis Sowa of Hillsboro, OR; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her second husband, Howard McConeghey. Mrs. McConeghey was preceded in death by her first husband, Louis Sowa; and two brothers. She was born June 17, 1916 in Biggs, OR to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sipp. Evelyn received her BA from Willamete University in Salem, OR. She received her MSW from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Evelyn was a psychiatric social worker in Oregon and California and was State Supervisor of Child Welfare in Oregon until her second marriage to Howard. She was instrumental in the addition of a minor in Peace Studies at U.N.M. Evelyn organized conferences on economics and the dangers of nuclear war. She edited a book of lectures on Nuclear Reactions and published a book on Money. Her latest book 'From A Little Place Called Biggs' which is her memoirs was published in January. Cremation has taken place and a memorial services will take place Saturday, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the family home. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
