Access from Mt. Hood Lane about 1/4 mile north of town or Highway 97 turnout near top of hill. Warranty deed from Oliver P. King, et us to R.L. Campbell, et al, Trustee, recorded in Deed Book E, page 66, Sherman County courthouse 13 September 1897. Signed by Oliver P. King and Addie King, witnessed by C. R. Rollins and C. W. Moore, in consideration of $1 paid by R. L. Campbell, J. D. Wilcox & J. H. Smith, Trustees of Grass Valley Lodge # 131, IOOF, Grass Valley to Oliver P. and Addie King of Grass Valley; six acres in the SE 1/4 of Section 22, T2S, R16E, for cememtery purposes. The conveyance is given for purpose of correcting an error in a deed dated July 10, 1897 and recorded in Deed Book D, page 617. Graves from the King ranch were removed to the Grass Valley IOOF cemetery, including white granite markers and the grave of an Olds wife who died in childbirth. The Grass Valley Lodge #131 -- Willard Barnett, Marcus Eslinger and Rodney Rolfe, officers, signed articles of incorporation to provide for the care, maintenance and improvements of the Grass Valley IOOF Cemetery. Apparetly 16 “Blocks” were originally platted for the cemetery, with a grid of 18 lots each. Through changes in fencing over the years, the actual cemetery has shrunk to Blocks 1,2,7,8,9,10, part of 15 and part of 16. Blocks are numbered as follows: West South 15 16 North road 10 9 7 8 road 2 1 East Lots within the blocks are numbered: West 18 7 6 17 8 5 South 16 9 4 North 15 10 3 14 11 2 13 12 1 East Each lot is divided into smaller divisions; halves, quarters or less. For simplicity’s sake, I have designated each grave Block #, lot #, north or south. That should get the searcher within feet of any given grave. TRE 1897 survey by J. B. Goit 1904 survey by E. F. Sharp Sherry Woods Kaseberg recorded graves for her book, Yesterday’s Roll Call, in August 1965. Terri Raibley Earl recorded and photographed headstones 2008. Special thanks to Sherry Woods Kaseberg, Emma Jean Smith, Patricia R. Moore, Jacque von Borstel and Charlotte Barnett.
