Like many of our most esteemed and faithful citizens, he was born in Germany, November 28, 1850, being the date. When twelve years of age he accompanied his father to this country, where they settled first in Utah, remaining but one and one-half years. Leaving that place they were proceeding eastward, having gone as far as Fort Laramie, Wyoming, when they met a train of immigrants coming to this region, who persuaded them to join their ranks. He first settled on Powder river, but in 1865 came to Umatilla county and bought land where he still lives, six and one-half miles east and south from Milton. Here our subject devoted himself to stock-raising and tilling the soil, having taken up a homestead near his father’s place. He has steadily increased his property holdings until now he owns a generous estate of six hundred acres, all fine soil and well improved. He devotes considerable attention to breeding the better kinds of stock, owning some fine Durham cattle as well as other good grades. Mr. Albrecht’s mother died before he left Germany and his father, now well advanced in years but hale and hearty, still lives with him, passing the golden years of his life in this now prosperous country which he toiled so assiduously to open to settlement. By way of reminiscence it is well to note that the train with which Mr. Albrecht came to the country had some very thrilling experiences with the savages during their trip across the plains, but all managed to escape with life and limb.
