Ayers To the influential and substantial citizen whose name appears above we accord a representation in this volume of Morrow county's chronicles both because of his brilliant success in business enterprises and because of his prominence in the county, having grown up within its precincts and well known as a successful stockman, and now as an electrical engineer and druggist, ever demeaning himself to be worthy of the confidence of all, which it is not presuming to say that he enjoys to a generous extent. He was born in Washington county, Oregon, near Forest Grove, on April 15, 1865, being early brought to this county by his parents, who settled on Little Butter creek. Here our subject was educated in the public schools, finishing in Heppner. In 1884 he started for himself, renting three thousand sheep, caring for them for three years. Then he purchased a band of his own and gave his attention to rearing them for two years, at the end of which time he sold them. The next two years of his life were spent in traveling and visiting in the east, returning in 1891. He again embarked in the sheep business and in 1895 took a band of two thousand to Malheur county, remaining there for two years, then removing to Canyon Citty, and purchased a ranch on Willow creek. He prosecuted the stock business with very flattering financial returns until 1900, when he sold his entire holdings of over five thousand head and a good body of land and purchased an interest in the Light & Water Company in Heppner, also an interest in the Consor & Warren drug store, now known as the Consor & Ayers Drug Company. He also owns considerable property in Heppner besides his handsome residence. He was married in Salem on June 29, 1890, to Miss Cora, daughter of John and Hester (Wagner) Neal, early pioneers to this state, and who still reside on their donation claims near Salem. Mr. Ayers affiliates with the A.F. & A.M., Heppner Lodge, No. 69. Being yet a young man and having accomplished such favorable, we would be right in saying brilliant, results in the business world, we presage for our subject a future career of fine success, commensurate with his excellent ability and keen financial foresight.
