Froome This popular hotel man and esteemed citizen of Athena is a native of Canada, born in the year 1859. When only three years old he was brought by his parents to California, in the public schools of which state he received his educational discipline. He worked at different occupations for the first twelve years after leaving the school room, then, in 1876, came to Walla Walla county, where he lived a year. He thereupon went to Milton and in that town he had his first experience in the hotel business in his father's hotel, keeping an establishment of that kind for a stage company. A short time afterward he removed to Athena, and embarked in the hotel business there with his father until his death and since he has been running the Athena hotel himself. Mr. Froome also owns a half interest in the Athena stables, and a block and a half of town property. He is achieving a well earned material success and is already to be ranked as one of the well-to-do or moderately wealthy citizens of the town, as he is one of the public spirited and enterprising. In fraternal affiliations our subject is a prominent member of the K. of P. and A. O. U. W. orders, having joined these fraternities as much as fifteen years ago. His marriage was solemnized in Athena, Oregon, on December 20, 1892, when Miss Laura Buzan, a daughter of Willis and Jane (Reeder) Buzan, became his wife. They have one child, Katherine. Mrs. Froome is a sister of George Buzan, present assessor of Umatilla county. Additional Comments: An Illustrated History of Umatilla County by Colonel William Parsons and of Morrow County by W. S. Shiach with a brief outline of the early history of the State of Oregon. W. H. Lever, Publisher 1902. Notice: These biographies were transcribed for the Oregon Biographies Project.
