F. HARRINGTON This prosperous and enterprising agriculturist, whose life has been largely spent within the borders of Umatilla county, has ever been a potent factor in its industrial development, while his capabilities and energy have marked him as one amply able to fill this worthy position. He was born in Missouri, on December 25, 1854, to Isaac and Martha Harrington, who eight years later migrated to this country across the plains with an ox team. Their first settlement was made in Walla Walla county, but two years later they removed to Umatilla county, taking up government land four miles north from where Milton now stands. Our subject was educated in the public schools in this and Walla Walla counties. When he reached his majority he engaged to ride on the range, following this until 1877, at which time he purchased a farm three miles east from Milton, where we find him at the present time. To the cultivation and improvement of this he has devoted his attention since, together with stock raising, with the gratifying results that he is now the proprietor of a fine estate of eight hundred acres. A goodly portion of this is planted each year to wheat, of which cereal he reaps bountiful crops. He is devoting considerable attention to breeding blooded stock, having some excellent specimens of Durham cattle, both grades and thoroughbreds. Mr. Harrington was married to Miss Ella, daughter of Thomas and Melissa McGrew, old pioneers of this county, on May 20, 1876. To this union have been born the following children: Annie, wife of Frank Harmon, living seven miles east; James, Frank, May, Albert, Jesse, Dean. His mother died in 1862 and his father about eight years since. Throughout the entire community, Mr. Harrington is respected and esteemed, having repeatedly been urged to receive public office at the hands of his fellows, which he refuses, preferring to devote himself to his business enterprises, still he is quite active in aiding to install men in these responsible positions who will be faithful and capable.
