Miller We are pleased to accord to this prominent citizen a place in these records of our county commensurate to his marked ability and faithful activities, both in public capacities and private enterprises, wherein he has ever shown himself worthy of the most unbounded confidence and high esteem of his fellows, which, it is not presuming to say, he enjoys to the fullest extent. His record as an early pioneer, markedly successful business man, promoter and upbuilder of educational institutions as well as prominence in municipal affairs, are alike replete with interest and instruction. He is a product of the county, practically, having spent almost all of his life within its precinets, growing up with the thriving little city of Milton, which had no existence within the time of his memory, receiving here his education and attaining here the brilliant success which is his to enjoy, and the enviable prominence the result of intrinsic merit. He was born in California on July 18, 1866, being brought to this county by his parents in 1872. They settled on lien land one mile north of Milton, where they still reside. He continued with his parents as assistant until 1886, when he entered partnership with his father in the nursery business. Under their wise management the business has grown to mammoth proportions, our subject being now equal partner in and manager of the concern. They plant annually over three hundred thousand trees, using thirty odd acres for this purpose, while their trade extends as far to the east as Indiana, and other directions in proportion. Their business is the largest of its kind in this section of the country and is growing very rapidly. He was married on December 2, 1891, to Delia, daughter of Henry and Cordelia Samuel. To them has been born one child, Evert Samuel, born on October 21, 1895. He is a member of the Adventist church and an ardent supporter of his faith. Mr. Miller takes an active part in promoting the cause of education, having acted for five years on the board of regents of Walla Walla College, as well as in other capacities in that line. He also takes an active interest in the affairs of his city and county, having served for several terms as the city councilman, and now occupies the chair of chief executive of Milton, where he had been for four years previous to this. In all his public service he is dominated by a high sense of honor as well as keen wisdom and fearless integrity, which has brought him the meed of the implicit confidence of his associates and the hearty good will and esteem of his constituency.
