Padberg While the ranks of the worthy pioneers are being thinned by the inevitable attacks of time, there is rising up a class of younger men who are taking up the work laid down by them, prosecuting with willing hands and good ability the advancement of the material welfare of the county, thus themselves becoming the substantial and prominent citizens of the county. Notable among this class is the man whose name is at the head of this article, and who is a product of this county and has wrought right here the excellent success that he now enjoys. His birth occurred on September 1, 1870, three miles from where he now lives, which is seven miles southeast from Ione, on Rhea creek, his parents, Henry and Martha (Riggs) Padberg, natives respectively of Germany and Iowa, settling there in 1870. He was educated in the schools of the county, or what is now Morrow county, and upon arriving at the years of maturity engaged in stock raising, handling both sheep and cattle. He owns a fine estate of nineteen hundred and twenty acres, eight hundred of which is farmed to wheat and twenty to alfalfa, also thirty more that can be planted to this forage plant, which they irrigate from Rhea creek. He has a good two-story residence, a well selected orchard and other substantial improvements that make a comfortable and valuable home for his family. The marriage of Mr. Padberg and Miss Lana A., daughter of Albert T. and Sarah A. (Perkins) Wood, of this county, was soleminized on January 24, 1897, and to them have been born two children, Opal May and Arla Lee. It is but right to say that in the mammoth estate and fine herds of our subject, all acquired by his own industrious and wise labors, we see the proofs of his ability, while his unsullied integrity and moral worth are manifest to all, thus demonstrating a noble manhood and worthy citizen, a son of whom the county may be justly proud.
