Straight This industrious and enterprising stockman and agriculturist is the son of an early pioneer and one of the sturdy men who wrought out a good success in this country. The broad acres and fine bands of stock owned by our subject attest better than words his capabilities and thrift and the energy with which he has wrought in this county, justly entitling him to rank with the leading men and prominent citizens. Mr. Straight was born in the Willamette valley, Marion county, on March 1, 1866, remaining here until he was eight years of age and then accompanied his father to what is now Morrow county, where the father took a homestead and engaged in raising stock until the time of his death, in July, 1886. He was a prominent man and active in the political realm, having been a delegate to many of the conventions. He was affiliated with the Democratic party. As soon as our subject became of mature years he engaged in the stock business, continuing the same until the present time. He owns twelve hundred and eighty acres of land, eighteen miles east and four miles south of Heppner, on the west fork of Butter creek, twenty-five acres of which is into alfalfa. He handles cattle principally, buying and fattening for the market. His place is embellished with good, substantial outbuildings, a comfortable residence, a fine orchard and other valuable improvements, which greatly enhance the value and make a comfortable home. The marriage of Mr. Straight and Miss Irena, daughter of Joseph and Elvira (Pickle) Devin, of Missouri, was solemnized in June, 1887, and the issue of this union is three children, Amy, Ola, and Waldon. Mr. Straight, like his father, has always taken an interest in the affairs of the county and nation, being allied with the Democratic party. Fraternally he is affiliated with the A.O.U.W. and the Red Men, being a popular member in these circles, while in all the relations of his life, which has largely been spent in this county, he has so demeaned himself that he has won the respect and confidence of all who have the pleasure of his acquaintance.
