Morse is being held in the Umatilla County Jail at Pendleton. The child, Richard Scott Russell Morse, 13 months, died at 7 p.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston as a result of injuries from a blow to the head, said Sheriff Robert Oliver. Morse was arrested Monday. Morse, Rt 1, Box 518, Hermiston, lists his occupation as laborer. He is a native of Pendleton. Morse weighs 180 pounds and is five feet 11 inches in height. Morse and his wife, Marla Kay, have been married only a short time. Among the child’s survivors are his grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Ray Cox, Stanfield, and Mr. And Mrs. Ellis Morse, Hermiston, and great-grandparents Mr. And Mrs. Len Cox, Seneca, Mo. Graveside services were held at the Hermiston City Cemetery today with the Rev. Harold McArthur officiating.
