Sensational Charges Made In Mrs.Eliza J.Sams' Complaint
Pendelton,Or.,August 1,(Special) Nine suits for divorce,filed within the past 
six days,16 during the month,nine decrees granted,and only 18 marriage 
licenses issued is the startling record in the Circuit Court of Umatilla 
County. Three were filed today,one being that of Eliza J.Sams vs. Charles 
A.Sams,both of Weston.
Mrs.Sams makes the sensational charges in her complaint.She says for six 
yearsher husband has been abusing her; that recently he knocked her off the 
porch with his fist,kicked her towards the gate,and when she fell exhausted 
and almost unconscious,picked her up by the arm and dragged her into the 
middleof the road.He took an infant from her breast and told her never to come 
back.Again,she says,he stamped on her when in bed,and whipped her son over the 
head with a club,pulling great handfuls of hair from his head.The Sams were 
married in 1888.They have about $5000 worth of property.
