Doane PENDLETON - Ernest I. Doane, 77, of Pendleton, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 1994, at his home near Pendleton. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton with interment at Olney Cemetery. Mr. Doane was born June 17, 1917, at McKay Creek near Pendleton, to William T. and Margaret R. Thomas Doane. He grew up in the Cayuse area and attended school there. He served with the 11th Airborne during World War II and received a bronze star during the liberation of the Philippines Islands. In October, 1946 he married Dorothy Crow Withey. He had farmed in Umatilla County and worked as a timber faller in Southern Oregon and owned and operated various service stations and radiator shops in Pendleton until his retirement. Survivors include sons, Thomas Doane of Albany and Dean Withey of Portland; sisters, Edna Keller and Margaret Sloan, both of Pendleton; brother, Simeon, of Flippin, Ark.; and two grandchildren. His wife, Dorothy, died in 1992; three brothers and a sister also died earlier.
