The East Oregonian Thursday, November 10, 1983 Helen M. Gibson PENDLETON - Helen M. Gibson, 79, was found dead Wednesday, at her home in Pendleton. Funeral will begin 2 p.m. Monday, at the Burns Mortuary Chapel, followed by burial at Olney Cemetery. Born in Pendleton Aug. 13, 1913, she was the daughter of Tom and Melinda (Handy) Gibson. She taught school in Adams and in Union. She and George Stangier were married from Dec. 28, 1938, until July 27, 1965. In addition to operating the Umatilla County Girls Home for several years, she taught ceramics at Eastern Oregon Hospital and Training Center from 1940 to 1960. Survivors include sister Edna Louise Washburn of Portland; and brother Thomas Silas Gibson Sr., of Pilot Rock. A sister, Bertha Margaret Porter, and a half sister, Eva Gibson, Died Earlier.
