Morning Oregonian October 26,1904
Hillsboro,Or.,Oct.25- (Special)- Mrs.Phoebe Stephens,wife of the late Thomas 
S.Stephens, died at he rhome in this city Monday. The deceased was born in 
Hancock County,Ohio,October 17,1816. She crossed the plains in 1845, driving a 
big span of garys from St.Louis to The Dalles. They settled on the Thomas 
Stephens donation land claim, three miles south of Portland,in 1846. Three 
sons and one daughter survive her. Internment was in Lone Fir Cemetey at 
Portland.
