Turner Navy Ensign Benjamin H. Turner, son of Christy and James Turner, The Dalles, recently received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Pensacola, Florida with distinction. During the 13-week-long training program, Turner received extensive instruction on a variety of specialized subjects including navigation, ship handling, engineering, naval warfare and management. Turner also completed a demanding daily physical fitness program that involved running, swimming and calisthenics. In addition. Turner and fellow OCS graduates received leadership training and instruction on the importance of the Navy's core values - honor, courage and commitment; and how their meaning impacts the personal and professional conduct of men and women serving in the Navy around the world. Turner is the grandson of Charles and Louise Harmon, also of The Dalles. He is a 1996 graduate of The Dalles High School and joined the Navy in March 2002.
