Surnames: Nelson, Weichbrodt, West, Stevenfeldt Larry Nelson, 66, a former resident of The Dalles, died in Oregon City (Oregon) on April 16, 2003. He was born on December 31, 1936 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Edgar M. and Edyth Nelson. He moved to The Dalles as a child when his family came to Oregon. He attended school in The Dalles, graduating from high school there in 1954. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1954 and served for eight years, mostly in Italy. He was an accomplished jazz musician and played in the U.S. Navy band and continuing with various other bands throughout his life. He also enjoyed woodworking and painting. He lived in California for 20 years before moving to Oregon City in 1980. He worked for most of his life as an aircraft machinist for McDonald-Douglass and Boeing. He married Ellen West Weichbrodt on March 24, 1985 and she survives. He is also survived by two stepsons, Jim and John West, both of Oregon City, and Rick West, Chico, California; four grandchildren and one sister, Judy Stevenfeldt. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, at Canby Funeral Chapel. Crown Memorial Center of Milwaukie (Oregon) is in care of arrangements.
