He was born Feb. 23, 1927 in Grove, Okla., the ninth of 11 children to Samuel Forrest and Dorinda E. (Griffin) Alberty. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed most of the time in Germany. He married Jadine Hilliard on March 8, 1948 in Grove, Okla., and they moved to Grass Valley later that year. He farmed from 1948 until 1987. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, raising livestock and farming, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Survivors include his wife Jadine of the family home in Grass Valley; his children and their families: daughters Melva and her husband Kent Thomas, Wasco; and Jerry and her husband Tom Maynard, Live Oak, Fla.; and his son Jim Alberty, Grass Valley; brothers and sisters Alonzo Alberty, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Lucille Lewis, San Jose, Calif.; Samuel Alberty, Moro; Dennis Alberty, Placerville, Calif.; and Betty Carranza, Santa Maria, Calif. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Marie Warren and Laura Sinor, Live Oak; Samantha Rivera, Lake City, Fla.; Jamie Thomas, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Jesse Thomas, Hillsborough, N.C.; and Josh Thomas, Wasco. In addition to his parents he was preceded by siblings Alice Meyers, Grace Lane, Clara Williamson, Inez Griggs, Gladys Lane and Bill Alberty. In accordance with his wishes, no public services will be held; the family will observe private ceremonies of remembrance in conjunction with the placement of his ashes in the Grass Valley Cemetery.
