He was born Nov. 23, 1921, in Toledo, the second of two children to Stanley Ross and Ellarea (Harmon) Anderson. He was raised in Toledo and served in the Civil Conservation Corps in Waldport. He entered the U.S. Navy on Dec. 15, 1941 and was an aviation machinist mate, first class with the 19th Utility Squadron in the Pacific Theatre. After the service he returned to Toledo and married Bettyjean Leola Davis on June 8, 1946. He started work as a body and fender man, owning his own auto repair shop in Toledo. In the mid-50’s, he started building fiberglass boats with Lloyd Loop and in the late 50’s, he started with Georgia Pacific Paper Mill retiring in 1983 as a pipe fitter. He was a member of Toledo Elks, Toledo Eagles, Lincoln County Rescue Service where he was a Scuba diver, the Oregon Veterans’ Motorcycle Association and the UMCI Motorcycle Association, Holy Toledo Elks RV Club, Shamrock CB Club in Salem, and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Reserve. He is survived by four children, Mary and her husband, Dale Blanshan, Lebanon; Robert Anderson, Linda and her husband, Glen Jones and Peggi Beeson, all of Salem; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and good friend and companion, Dee Loop, The Dalles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettyjean in August 1990 and his sister, Louise Cox in 2001. Memorial services and Eagles Rites will be held at Toledo Eagles Lodge on Monday, May 10, at 11 a.m. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Oregon Veterans’ Home, 700 Veterans’ Drive, The Dalles, OR 97058.
