The Dalles Chronicle, August 30, 2005
     Ann Marie Bessette, 57, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care 
facility on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005.
     She was born Sept. 10, 1947 in Grafton, N.D., the fifth of eight children 
to Herman and Louise (Feldman) Knudson. She married and eventually moved to 
The Dalles in 1973.
     She was a dedicated member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s 
Academy, where she worked almost twenty years in the daycare department. She 
enjoyed working with kids, was very creative with ceramics and crafts, and was 
a very talented seamstress.
     She is survived by her husband, Rene; her two sons, Ryan and his wife 
Shannon, and Nathan, The Dalles; her three brothers, DeWayne and Lewis 
Knudson, Grafton; Arthur Knudson and his wife, Judy, Fargo, N.D.; and Herman 
Knudson and his wife, Mary Ann, Jacksonville, Fla.; her sisters, Lois Schlenk, 
Grafton; and Louise Gaustad and her husband, John, Vancouver, Wash.; her 
grandchild, Taylor; 10 nieces; eight nephews; and very special friend of 35 
years, Terry Hahn. 
     She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Knudson.
The Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral 
Home on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m.
     Services will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Thursday, Sept. 
1, at 10 a.m. with Father Todd Unger officiating. Spencer, Libby & Powell 
Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
     Memorial contributions may be made to any U.S. Bank, to help purchase a 
granite bench to be placed in her honor at St. Mary’s Academy playground where 
she spent so many years with the children of this community, or to Hospice of 
the Gorge, 751 Myrtle St. The Dalles, OR 97058 for all their help and support 
in her care.
