Beyer, 94, a resident of The Dalles since June of 1970 and formerly of the Kent area in Sherman County, died Sunday, Feb. 14, at the local hospital. He was born in Chicago, Ill. on July 31, 1893 to Leonard and Minnie (Bittle) Beyer. He married Fay M. Howell on March 31, 1921 in Madras. They farmed from 1921 to 1943 between Kent and Shaniko. He served in the U.S. Army in World War I and was a member of the Kent Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Faye M., The Dalles; a daughter, Thelda Jackson, The Dalles; three grandchildren, James M. Jackson, Seaside; Katherine Faye Elton, The Dalles; and Thomas M. Jackson, McMinnville; one great-grandson, Travis Elton, The Dalles; and four great-granddaughters, Holli elton, The Dalles; Jennifer, Jodi and Joaanna Jackson, all of McMinnville. Funeral services were Thurs., Feb. 18 at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred w. Hawkins officiating. Burial was at The Dalles IOOF Cemetery. Honorary casketbearers were Phil Howell, John Decker, Earl LaFountain, Verne Mobley, Walter Scott and George Storey. Active casketbearers were Rodney Rolfe, Art Decker, Gordon Helyer, John Schadewitz, Jim and Larry Howell. Memorials may be made to the Senior Center or the Kent Baptist Church.
