Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 17, 2006, 10:43 pm The Dalles Chronicle, January 20, 2006 Gerald “Butch” Ray Bingman, 61, a resident of The Dalles, died at a Portland hospital on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006. He was born May 11, 1944, in Nyssa, the older of two sons to Dale Layne and Maxine Marie (Shaw) Bingman. He grew up and graduated from high school in Nyssa. He attended Eastern Oregon College before being drafted into the Army, serving with 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War. After the service, he completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology and history at Portland State University. He worked construction on The Dalles Dam from 1970-1974, then was employed with the Oregon State Employment Division as the veteran representative in The Dalles. In 1980, he and his wife became the owners/operators of the Spillway Tavern. In January of 1994, they started construction of their new restaurant-lounge, The Windseeker, which opened in June 1994. He was a member of VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed gardening; as seen in the lovely gardens around the restaurant, which earned The Dalles Beautification Award in 2000. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, the outdoors, kayaking and being with his family. He is survived by his wife, Veta Louise (Nicoletti) Bingman, whom he married in 1970, in Winnemucca, Nev.; his daughters, Tiffanie Jo and Teddie Rae Bingman and his son, Ty Scott Bingman, all of The Dalles; his parents, Dale and Maxine Bingman, Lewiston, Idaho; his brother, Bob and his wife, Lisanne Bingman, Clarkston, Wash.; and niece, Tawnya and nephew, Travis. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 22, from noon to 5 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. to service time on Monday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home with Asa Jenson officiating. Veteran’s rites and a gathering of family and friends will follow at The Windseeker Restaurant, 1535 Barge Way. Memorials may be made to the Oregon Lung Association, 7420 SW Bridgeport Rd. # 200, Tigard, OR 97224.
