The Dalles Chronicle, January 7, 2004
     Edmund W. “Curley” Bishop, 76, a resident of The Dalles for 43 years, 
died at his home Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004. 
     He was born Aug. 24, 1927 in Moline, Ill., the younger of two children to 
Walter Lloyd and Agnes McDonald (Rutherford) Bishop. He was raised in Vermont, 
Ill., and graduated from Vermont High School in the Class of 1945. 
     After high school, he entered into the U.S. Navy and served in Guam. He 
returned to Illinois after his service and worked as a diesel mechanic and 
truck driver. He married Donna Lee Harris on Dec. 7, 1952 in Havana, Ill., and 
they moved to The Dalles in 1960. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and 
worked for Sites, Silverwheels and Viking Freight companies as a truck driver.
     He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 
enjoyed genealogy and his church cleric work for over 30 years. In the late 
1960s they built a home on Highway 197 and also enjoyed wood fret work, rug 
making and reading.
     He is survived by his wife; son, Eddie Lee Bishop; two daughters, Sherrie 
Luttoo and her husband, Jose Luis Mondragon, and Lana Ruth Atkins; grandsons, 
Andrew Mondragon, Maxwell and Dakota Atkins; granddaughter, Amberley Atkins 
and nephew, Daniel Bartruff, all of The Dalles.
     Memorial services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- 
Day Saints on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004 at 1 p.m. with Bishop Jason Corey 
officiating. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with 
Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Memorials may 
be made to charity of choice.
