Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 28, 2006, 5:26 pm The Dalles Chronicle, June 21, 2006 Ralph Rodick Bisset, 96, a resident of The Dalles, died Monday, June 19, 2006, at a care facility in Beaverton. He was born Dec. 4, 1909 in Dayville, to James and Mary (Klimanek) Bisset. He was raised outside of Dufur, attended a one room school house at Wolf Run and graduated high school at Columbia Prep in Portland. He worked for wages from age 9. He worked for Dufur area farmers and orchards. During the depression he worked driving cattle truck from Dufur to Portland for $1 a day. He married Hazel Beymer on June 29, 1940 at Dufur Alphonso Catholic Church at 6 a.m. They lived in Rufus and Parkdale. When his brother Jack returned from the war, they purchased the Mint Tavern, then the “Turf” Tavern and the family resided in The Dalles. They were members of St. Peter Catholic Church in The Dalles. He loved watching his kids and grandkids participate in sports. He was generous with his time and labor, helping many friends and neighbors over the years. He was a man who was quick to give money and assistance to those in need. He is survived by his wife, Hazel; his children and grandchildren, Judy Perdue, Portland; Annette Yeager, Portland; and Robbie Perdue, Vancouver, Wash.; Yvonne Jordan, Portland, and her son Michael Jordan; Donna Bisset, Portland; and Ben Balzer, Beaverton; Bill Balzer, Portland; Katie Howton, Snoqualmie, Wash.; Linda and Bob Smith, The Dalles; Owen Smith, The Dalles; and Noel Smith, Scottsdale, Ariz.; R. Philip and Sue Bisset, Dundee; Melissa Grace, Boerne, Texas; Mary Bisset, Portland; Hannah and Ken, Dundee; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Donald (Jack), Ken and Lex; sisters, Lucy McCarthy and May Kennedy. Viewing and visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, with rosary to follow at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church at 11 a.m., Friday, June 23. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Meal Program at PO Box 553 The Dalles, OR.
