Wakley iwakley@msn.com June 2, 2006, 1:17 am The Dalles Chronicle, April 12, 2006 Earl Robert Blumenthal, 87, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care facility Sunday, April 9, 2006. He was born in Brewster, Neb., on Nov. 11, 1918, the third of five children to Otto and Rosa (Enspire) Blumenthal. He grew up farming with his family in Centralia, Wash., raising show pigeons and racing homers. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was on the USS Nevada during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He married Ileane Millslagle in Centralia on Dec. 17, 1945. He retired from Centralia Convalescent Center after 20 years. He is survived by his wife Ileane Blumenthal, The Dalles; his two daughters, Peggy Waggoner, Anchorage, Alaska; and Judy Reed, Spokane, Wash.; his step-son, William Scholl, The Dalles; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grand children; and his sister Eva Stout. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Rosa Blumenthal; and three brothers, Leroy Blumenthal, Ray Blumenthal and Leonard Blumenthal. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 15, at 11 a.m. at the Lyle Methodist Church. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-Quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars.
